Dr. Chris Steel is a board-certified anesthesiologist and Chief Medical Officer with 15 years of experience integrating clinical, financial, operational, and regulatory acumen to ensure the highest standards of patient care, compliance, and company goal achievement.
As the current CMO for White River Health System (White River, Arkansas) and in his consulting engagements, he manages the healthcare arm of the business, performs financial analysis to inform service line additions, leads physician services, and creates OPPE programs. In addition to leading anesthesia services at four institutions, he has held Chief of Staff and Chief Quality Officer roles and been responsible for free-standing clinics, provider-based clinics, and population health.
Academically, he has served as chief resident in training and continues to contribute to the anesthesiology body of literature and give lectures across the country.
At a national level, Dr. Steel served as partner to 40+ institutions during his 2020 term as medical director of the Perioperative Surgical Home (PSH) Learning Collaborative. In that capacity he led the workgroup which drafted the PSH Implementation guide, and he continues to serve on the PSH steering committee and perioperative medicine committee for the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
In addition, he serves on the medical advisory board for multiple billion-dollar healthcare technology companies and is involved in establishing clinics in the Middle East.
Whether in his medical practice, his consulting, or in start-ups ranging from medical technology to service animal training, Dr. Steel applies a growth mindset and consistent application of best practices to achieve results.
In his free time Chris enjoys running, coaching, volunteering, and perfecting his Spanish to keep up with the exchange student living with his Batesville-based family.
